Install & Set up ChatShield in a few steps:

To install ChatShield, enter your details, then click on the download button to save the ChatShield_Setup file to your desktop.

Once the file has downloaded, double click on the Setup icon, click run, and follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. A setup wizard will walk you through the easy setup process.

To start the setup wizard, you need to enter your ChatShield Registration Key. This can be found in the software box. If you have installed the download version of ChatShield, the registration key will have been sent to the email address you provided.

Step 1: Create Password

Set the ChatShield parental password. You will need this password to modify any of the parental control settings at a later date.

Step 2: Add Users

Enter the email addresses of all family members who use Windows Live Messenger.

Important: You must enter the email address that each person uses to sign-in to Windows Live Messenger. If a family member does not have a NetIDme account, you will be given the opportunity to create their account during the setup process.

Step 3: Define Security Settings

Set the security settings for the family member. If you do not want some family members to be protected by ChatShield when using Windows Live Messenger (e.g. Mum or Dad), simply select 'No ChatShield protection for this user'.

Step 4: Add Trusted Contacts

You can add 'trusted contacts' here - for example other family members who may not have their own NetID account. The trusted contacts list can be updated at any time via the ChatShield options menu (accessible by right-clicking on the ChatShield icon in your system tray, and entering your parental password).

ChatShield Setup is Complete

When you have added all trusted contacts, click 'Next', to end the setup wizard. ChatShield is now ready to protect your family.

Modifying Settings

You can edit the ChatShield settings for all Windows Live Messenger users at any time. Once the user is logged in to Windows Live Messenger, simply right click on the ChatShield icon in your system tray to access the password-protected options menu.
